Polariod 101

The history of the camera is an interesting History . The First Instant Camera was introduced to the world in 1948 by an American Scientist know as Edwin Land. Land introduced the instant film a year before that but the camera wasn't available to the public until November 1948. The first commercial camera available was the Polaroid Land Camera Model 95 which produced a picture in a minute . They sold at least 1.5 million of these cameras. Polaroid and instant cameras were a hit thanks to Edwin Land and his work with light polarization.

Edwin Land

Edwin Land was born May 7, 1909 in Connecticut. He was a student at Harvard University who went on to study light polarization. Land is know as the Father of the Instant Picture. He left Harvard to pursue his passion of light polarization. During his studies he developed the instant camera and self developing film. He became the founder of Polaroid and paved the path for camera development.

Present Day Camera's

As you can see the Polaroid is not used as often anymore. Technology has advanced and the Polaroid has become an outdated toy. Even the use of an old school Polaroid such as a Super Color 600 has been replaced by the simplistic design of the instant mini 8. Enthusiast seem like the only people interested in reviving what was is now a dead art. While the Polaroid was the talk of the town in 1948, present day it has become easier to snap pictures and with better quality so the Polaroid has no use anymore.
